In this epic year of our nation’s 250th anniversary, nothing could be more important than honoring those who gave the ultimate sacrifice, and their families who persevere.
The Tragedy Assistance Program for Survivors (TAPS) was founded by Bonnie Carroll in 1994 when she lost her husband, Brigadier General Tom Carroll, in a tragic plane crash. She discovered there was a huge need for support systems for survivors. TAPS offers grief camps, counseling, mentorship, retreats and peer support, all at no cost to survivor families. To fund these crucial programs, the TAPS songwriter dinners were formed and have been a huge success every year.
How to define a fantastically fun evening for such an important cause? The recipe for success continues: the famous chuckwagon dinner provided by the Coors Cowboy Club from Amarillo, stories from survivors and leaders, and some guitar-tinkering by Ned LeDoux, Belles, Zach Neil and Ed Montana. Rylie Behr’s auction portion of the evening not only raised significant funds, but was a comedy show in itself.
