Back for the 28th year, the Pueblo Chile and Frijoles Festival has become a tradition known far and wide. It’s not merely about chiles and the scrumptious dishes that vendors dish out–it’s live entertainment, balloon launches, a jalapeno-eating contest, a chihuahua parade, a rainbow of booths and a chance to soak up some sunshine and comraderie.

A record crowd of an estimated 160,000 people descended on Pueblo’s Union Avenue district over the course of three days. The familiar hiss and aroma of roasting chiles blended with music from live bands, gleeful laughter from kids, and happy barks from the four-legged friends entering the Chihuahua Parade, which has grown to 118 proud participants this year.

The Chile and Frijole Festival was created to promote Pueblo’s rich agriculture and encourage the community to buy local fresh products at any of the numerous farm stands and specialty shops available during the festival and year round.
