A refreshing sprinkle joined the guests at this year’s Salt on the Rim as the dedicated volunteers and staffers working with the Kempe Foundation Alliance and the Kempe Center for the Prevention and Treatment of Child Abuse and Neglect once again hosted the signature fundraising party.

This year’s soiree combined the traditional margarita bash with special treats, including scrumptious food from Elway’s Cherry Creek, entertainment by the Tripping Griswolds, a “Tequila Toss” and “Marguerita Challenge” to make this one of the most popular bashes of the year.

Co-chairs Lauren Cannon Davis and Leigh McMahon know how to throw a summer party. Hundreds of guests cavorted in stylish garden party-wear, keeping in mind the ever-pressing issue of helping kids escape the cycle of abuse and neglect.

Board Chair Ren Cannon reported some staggering statistics, including a disturbing portrait of 763,000 children–enough to fill Sports Authority Field 10 times–confirmed as being neglected or abused last year. 1770 children died as a result of their abuse; 36 in Colorado alone. National statistics are slowly getting better, but the sad fact is that Colorado continues to post high numbers, and we are obligated to do something about it.
