African Leadership Group has a lot to celebrate in August, 2021, even beyond its services and achievements during the pandemic. Afrik Impact Gala was just one of eight events the group hosted in a two-week blitz to honor African Immigrant Month in Colorado. This year’s official state proclamation, signed by Gov. Jared Polis, was the result of the group’s successful Afrik Impact awareness campaign. With pandemic event restrictions finally lifting, ALG ran with the opportunity, hosting occasions that ranged from educational workshops to the fundraising gala to a fun-filled live concert. Just watching the gala guests, it’s apparent that this group is living up to its “Standing Taller and Prouder Than Ever” creed.

On Friday, Aug. 13, at Denver Botanic Gardens, the evening began with a VIP reception held in the Schlessman Family Atrium, a spirited gathering marked by guests enjoying light refreshments while chatting with friends old and new. Soon everyone went on to a sit-down dinner catered by The Gourmet Kitchen. The program, emceed by Darryl Collier, featured scholarship awards and a youth empowerment testimonial by Lilyan Hakim. Other speakers included Elhadji Amadou Ndao, Consul General, Republic of Senegal; ALG founder and president Papa Dia; and keynote speaker, Moussa Seydi, PhD. After an enthusiastic paddle raise, the event ended with music provided by Carlou D, that had the crowd up and dancing.
African Leadership Group writes: “ALG is an established Colorado nonprofit of 15 years created to serve the entire African immigrant community to help improve their quality of life. We do it through social, education and economic programs such as youth empowerment and public speaking classes reaching thousands of individuals. Every year during the month of August, we celebrate loudly and proudly the impact African immigrants have in the state of Colorado.
