There’s nothing more special than the gift of life. Such is the concept that drives the American Transplant Foundation and to celebrate this mission, more than 300 supporters gathered at the DaVita Sky Lounge on Friday night to partake in the 4th annual Trivia for Life event.
The clouds and rain that had covered the city for most of the day seemed to part just for this event and rays of sunshine smiled at guests on the balcony overlooking the Denver landscape. Lots of camaraderie and an open bar helped fuel a high-energy competition as Gregg Farber delivered trivia challenges. Dr. Brad Nieder, the Healthy Humorist and Farber family friend also helped in the fun.
Founded by Steve Farber, Heidi Heltzel and Dr. Laurence Chan, the Foundation has helped save 1,579 lives and provided over $1,000,000 in direct patient and family support nationwide. Over 300 mentors who speak 12 languages have helped walk with others going through the transplant journey, and potential living donors have been given the tools to be able to save a life. And among their proudest victories, legislation has been passed to support living donors and their families. None of this would have been possible without his vision.
Steve passed away on March 4, 2020 but his legacy continues on. The Foundation’s passion for helping patients through their transplant journeys drives their efforts to support living donors as they give the Gift of Life. They do this by maximizing living organ donation, which is the most effective way to fulfill the mission. They provide a three-tiered approach with educational, emotional, and financial support for living donors, transplant patients, and their families across the country, with a specific focus on Colorado.
