How many people can say that they can take $25 to Goodwill and come out with a fashion ensemble to rival creations on Project Runway or famous designer collections?
Students from CEC Middle College of Denver, Denver School of the Arts and Northglenn High School did just that, and on hand to present the creations was none other than Project Runway and Under the Gunn‘s fashion guru and Emmy award winner Tim Gunn and Denver’s own fashion designer Mondo Guerra, winner of Project Runway All Stars.
It was a fashionista’s dream as about 800 stylish divas attended the 2014 Good Exchange Fashion show and clothing swap at the EXDO Events Center on February 6.
Models strutted the runway to show off the marvelous up-cycled outfits, and Denver celebrities such as Denise Plante, Kelly Brough and Christine Benero showcased wonderful outfits that will be available at Goodwill’s premiere fashion boutique, Deja Blue.
The crowd cheered and shouted as the fashion parade unfolded. Channel 7’s Lisa Hidalgo was right at home next to Gunn as co-emcee of the spectacular show.
After the runway glamour, the mad fun began as ladies rushed into the fashion exchange, where they were allowed to pick 10 items from the collection of other attendees and donors.
The event, now in its 4th year, benefits Goodwill’s career development programs for at-risk youth, struggling adults and people with disabilities.
Goodwill Denver translates the good in the local community to programs and resources that change lives. Profits from retail stores, as well as donor contributions, fund Goodwill’s highly successful programs in workforce development. They help people find the tools to success at work and in life. Last year, Goodwill served over 19,000 individuals in our community. Visit their website at www.goodwilldenver.org to get details about how these programs work and see how you can get involved.
