On Thursday, May 8 Community Health Charities held their 4th Annual Health Heroes at Work Recognition Breakfast at the Denver Museum of Nature and Science. Community Health Charities strives to unite caring donors in the workplace with the nation’s most trusted health charities and for this breakfast, the organization was recognizing excellent workplace giving campaigns. This year, National President and CEO Tom Bognanno was on hand to congratulate the 11 recipients on their outstanding efforts to raise money through workplace giving campaigns.
Community Health Charities also recognized three individuals as Community Health Heroes of the Year. First was Kathleen Bates whose husband, at the age of 35, was diagnosed with Huntington’s Disease. Since then, Kathleen has raised nearly $250,000 as co-chair for Denver Team Hope, a 5k run/walk now in its 10th year.
Also recognized were Mary and McKenzie White, who received an award for Inspiration and Heroism. At age 6, McKenzie went into acute cardiac arrest and suffered Global Anoxic Brain Injury. With lots of patience, dedication and assistance from the Ronald McDonald House, the Whites inspired others to never give up. McKenzie now enjoys baseball, bowling and skiing with the Special Olympics.
